Environmental Product Declarations

REVIGRÉS is the first Portuguese company in the tile industry to have Environmental Product Declarations - EPDs.

Building sustainability is increasingly based on the use of ecoefficient materials whose social, economic and environmental impacts help meet developers’ objectives.

Consequently, the materials must contribute to positive assessment of rating systems for buildings, including BREEAM and LEED.

For this purpose, the full body porcelain wall and floor tile collections by Revigrés – including Revigres Tech and Ecotile collections – have type III Environmental Certification, pursuant to standards ISO 14025 and EN 15804.

They have been submitted to a Life cycle analysis (LCA) process and were certified by an independent and international entity: the IBU system of the German organisation Institut Bauen und Umwelt e.V.

Therefore, these product collections help buildings obtain environmental and sustainability building certification.

BUT WHAT IS AN EPD AND WHAT IS ITS CONTRIBUTION FOR BUILDING CERTIFICATION?

The EPD-Environmental Product Declaration is a statement about the environmental impact of products and processes, namely, on human health, the ecosystems and material and energy resource consumption.

This impact is assessed in all stages of product life cycle: extraction, production, transport, installation, use and removal or decomposition.

It also functions as the basis for analysis and comparison between a variety of products available on the market.

The following are EPDs’ contributions to two sustainable building certifications:

– LEED (U.S. Green Building Council) – provide information for two categories: Materials and Resources and Quality of the Indoor Environment;

– BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) – provide information for two categories: Health and Well-being (air quality) and Materials (life cycle impact, durability, the responsibility of raw materials and performance/efficiency).

Our tiles are green!
